doTerra Compensation Plan

doTerra's compensation plan can be accessed and viewed through this link.

There are three ways to make money with doTerra.

  1. Retail Profit (paid monthly). Wellness Advocates earn a percentage of profit from selling products. Since Wellness Advocates get their products at discounted prices, they earn percentage for selling products at retail prices.
  2. Fast Start Bonus (paid weekly). This is paid to a new member for their first 60 days with the company.
  3. Power of 3 Bonus. This is earned by recruiting new members.

I found a video on doTerra's official YouTube channel that could explain the compensation plan better. You can watch it below.

doTerra Pros and Cons

PROS

  • Company has been around for many years
  • The Fast Start Bonus
  • Good customer service support

CONS

  • The company does not own the farms where the materials for the essential oils are produced, which is risky due to the difficulty of maintaining quality control for their products
  • The products are quite expensive in their retail price, which might drive away potential customers
  • The FDA has issued warnings against the company for their misleading product claims

Do doTerra Wellness Advocates make money?

According to doTerra's 2018 Opportunity and Earnings Disclosure Summary, entry-level Wellness Advocates, which consist of 62% of all U.S. Wellness Advocates, made only $380 that year.

The Manager and Director ranks only earned $708 and $1,156 respectively for that year. This just shows us that even though you reached those ranks, you are still not earning enough money to reach minimum wage. This figures seem smaller than most MLMs I have encountered.

I don't think that for all your effort - from ordering products, selling products, hosting selling parties and livestreams, shipping products - you only deserve $1 a day. Your efforts are definitely worth more than that amount.

The reality with these MLMs is they tend to oversell the opportunity they are promoting. They say that you can do this full-time, but in reality, this is not a full-time career, especially with those very low earnings.

I truly believe that there are better ways to make money online than joining MLM companies such as doTerra and Isagenix. However, the data presented to us showed us that there are people who managed to reach the high ranks and earn big, which means it is possible.

As long as you are in the right team and get plenty of support, there is no doubt that you can succeed in your MLM venture.

doTerra lawsuits

doTerra has its own fair share of lawsuits and negative reviews.

In 2016, Young Living filed a lawsuit against doTerra. The following year, however, the court ruled that the executives who left Young Living to start doTerra did not breach any employment contracts.

In this post, a Reddit user shared their experience with their mother who is a doTerra Wellness Advocate. One of their mother's friends recommended them essential oils to remove their stretch marks, which didn't work. According to them, their mother's friend oversell the products as a cure-all.

Is doTerra legit?

Yes, doTerra is a legit company that has been in business for many years now.

However, MLMs always get bashed for the following reasons:

  • Team leaders refuse to offer training to their members, making them recruit instead
  • Members lose money as they do not know how to sell or market their products

It is important to join the right team so that you will get the proper help and support to succeed in your MLM business. These people will be the ones with you all throughout your MLM journey.

Proper sales and marketing training would also help you greatly, since sales is the main factor that will drive you to success. Being part of a team who strives for success is a good thing. Supporting each other is a guaranteed way to succeed in your individual and group goals.

I believe that as long as you apply the right strategies and you have the proper support from your team, you can make this opportunity work.

Is doTerra a Pyramid Scheme?

First of all, let's look at what a Pyramid Scheme is:

"A pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments or services for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying investments or sale of products." Wikipedia

how-a-pyramid-scheme-works

As doTerra Wellness Advocates make money both by recruiting other team members AND by selling products to customers, it is safe to say that doTerra is not a Pyramid Scheme!

How to succeed with doTerra and any other online business

MLMs tend to get a bad reputation because most people who joined them did not make any money at all.

This is because the “sales techniques” that leaders teach their members are very predatory, which includes bombarding family, friends, high school batchmates, and even strangers with messages that shamelessly promote whatever they are selling. They could earn easy money through commissions which make them do this.

Here is the thing... You cannot force someone who is not interested with your MLM to sign up for it. If you keep being pushy on people, especially with those close to you, you will just ruin your relationships with them.

You need to find a way to reach your target market, as their purchases will be sustaining your business. Reaching your target market is the big key to your success.

There are two popular ways to do this:

  1. Set up paid adverts that target a specific audience within your niche
  2. Find a way to generate free organic traffic that can be turned into sales

The first option is very expensive and if you are just starting out, then I recommend you scrap that for now.

The second one is completely doable and inexpensive, in fact, you can even get the right tools and information for FREE.

In this FREE Make Money Online Course, you can learn a number of things that can help you succeed with doTerra and any other similar businesses.
