Summary: Selling Avon is definitely not for beginners. Their scheme makes it hard for those who do not know much about marketing, to earn any commission. I recommend you learn some marketing principles first and start by selling products where commission is given at lower sales levels.

You can only choose one kit and this has to be paid for within 13 days of receiving the invoice.

In each Avon year there are sixteen 3 week campaigns and one 4 week campaign (just after Christmas).

If no sales have been made for over 18 consecutive campaigns, the representative's account will be closed.

You can return to be an Avon Representative, but the administration fee payable for the first and second orders will apply again.

Every Avon Representative has to buy at least the £15 kit, regardless of whether they want to sell face to face or online.

Once the kit has been bought, the rep will be entitled to have their own online store space on the Avon website.

Can you sell Avon online only?

Avon Reps can choose to sell online only.

Opening up an online store, will allow the representative to set it up so that they can sell by direct delivery to online customers only or by representative delivery too.

After collecting orders from customers, the Avon Rep will need to submit them via their online account, along with any representative delivery order.

Direct delivery orders are paid for by the customer and get sent directly to them. However, Avon will take a 5% handling fee of the total order value (capped at £1.50).

Representative delivery orders are sent to the Avon Rep, who will then distribute them to their customers.

Avon Representative pay in UK

During their first campaign, Avon Representatives will earn 20% of all sales, regardless of how much they have sold.

From the second campaign onward, the minimum order value will be £87 to get 20% commission and £160 to get 25% commission.

When you reach the above sales levels, you will be able to carry the commission rate over to the next campaign, even if you sell just £1 worth of products.

However, you will then need to sell a minimum of £87 worth of products again in the next campaign, in order to retain the commission levels.

Why sell Avon

Can you change your mind after signing up?

After being appointed as an Avon Rep, you can change your mind by contacting your Area Manager.

Kits can only be returned in full.

The Sales Service Centre will need to be informed within 14 days from delivery of the kit and this will need returning to Avon within 21 days from the date of the notice to the Sales Service Centre.

How many hours a week do you have to work for Avon?

You can work as many hours as you like and at whatever time you like.

Your online business' success will depend on the effort you put into it, so you should not expect a full-time kind of salary by just working 5 hours a week (This is applicable to any online business!).

Avon Sales Leader incentives

Another way of making money with Avon is by becoming an Avon Sales Leader.

Leaders earn commission from sales made by other people whom they have recruited into their team.

Here is how much you can earn as an Avon Sales Leader:

  • 4% starting commission
  • 9% of the total team sales
  • An additional 3% on top of the commissions above, when you reach Executive Level

The best Sales Leaders can also qualify to win trips or even a car.

Is it worth selling Avon in UK?

I definitely do not recommend going down the route of stocking the products yourself and trying to sell them to family and friends.

You should always focus on selling a product to those who really want it and going door-to-door is no longer a thing in this day and age!

You could definitely set up an "online store only" type of business, but if you have never sold anything before and know nothing about online marketing, you are pretty much guaranteed that your online store will be closed.

What about applying as an Avon Sales Leader?

Well, putting a team together is not that easy. On top of that, you would have to rely on other people's selling skills.

You could mentor them yourself, but that would still require you to have marketing knowledge.

Also, you might end up investing time on people who will quit your team within a month!

I definitely do not recommend selling Avon, unless you have a good grasp of online marketing, as well as owning an already established website!

Is there a better way of making money?

Making money online is the best way forward, but there are some basic principles that need to be followed in order to be successful:

  1. Choose a profitable niche (beauty, sports, fitness, etc.) that you are passionate about.
  2. Build a website (You no longer need to know how to code these days!)
  3. Write quality content to attract visitors
  4. Earn revenue by promoting third party products and receiving commission
online business principles

You do not need to have your own products to sell, nor do you need to have anything in stock.

Beware though, that having an online business does not mean that you will be able to make money overnight.

On average, people see their first sale come in after 6+ months. I have seen people make £10,000+/month after 1.5/2 years!

Of course, there is more to learn on top of the principles I have mentioned above. This is why I would like to recommend you to join this FREE online training, where you will learn how to set up your online business.

  1. Avon looks promising but i never liked it starting from the day the platform was introduced to me besides the cons outweighed the pros by far margin.

I have dislike for anything that has to do with MLM, however, the actual part that put me off is not knowing their criteria when it comes to withdrawing one’s money. After struggling to get referrals and other task, one would want to know that the cash accrued is withdrawal and that such individual can be able to meet the criteria for withdrawing.

    Thanks for your wonderful review.

    • Hi Tracy,

There are so many online opportunities, so I don’t think you have missed out with being an Avon rep 🙂

I wish you all the best!

  2. I once tried selling Avon years ago on Ebay, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The products are too expensive to compete with similar products online or in the shops. Also, the quality isn’t good enough to justify the extra cost. Selling Avon is best suited for extroverted people who are good at face to face selling. However, even if one had that type of personality, selling anything face to face is inefficient when there are better ways of reaching people online, and a lot more potential customers online. If I was to sell cosmetics or anything else on Ebay again, I’d definitely look for a cheaper source of products.

    • Indeed, there are so many alternatives out there. I also believe Avon is not cruelty free, which really puts me off… I love animals!

I cannot comment on quality, as I have never tried Avon’s products.

Thank you for stopping by 🙂

  3. Thanks for writing this review on Avon. I must commend you for taking your time to writing this article and also explaining about the pros and cons In details. Everything you said about Avon Is true.

A friend once told me about it but what actually pulled me back is because am not too good in convincing people to buy products especially physical products, that why i didn’t really ventured into it. Thanks for the educative post.

    • Hi Labulo,

I am not a fan of face to face selling where you have to go and knock on people’s doors…

I much prefer blogging and getting my visitors organically 🙂 This way, you always know that you are promoting products to those who want them!

Is your friend an Avon rep then?

  4. Working for avon is like having your own business. Your area manager is there when needed but otherwise

you just get on with it. You build up your own clientele and its great! There is occasionally opportunities to be promoted.

Although Avon is good as it allows you to work when you want. Thank you for sharing this article

    • Hi Mustapha,

There are so many online opportunities out there to be able to be your own boss! You don’t just have the option to become an Avon rep 🙂

Please let me know if I can help you with anything.

  5. Hey there Cristina,

Avon has been one of the “traditional” MLM product companies. As a beauty products company, it is operating in one of the “evergreen” niches, the niches that are always gonna be in trend. There are always gonna be women, and women will always want to look beautiful.

That said, you have two options. One, the face to face -the traditional- approach which is recommended for more extroverted people. This approach has the downside that you ran out of prospects at some point, therefore having to turn to the online shop and find prospective buyers approach. Which requires different skills.

I’d say that one could combine the solution you are offering, learn online marketing skills. and use them to promote companies like Avon. Especially now, since Avon has an online store for its UK representatives.

    My two cents.

    • Hi Marios,

      Thank you for your comment.

Avon is indeed an MLM company and it is not an easy one to promote, especially as a beginner.

It is always best to promote multiple products in all cases!

  6. Hey Cristina,

It’s one of the most valuable posts I’ve read about online business. I especially benefit from reading your important and informative article about Avon Rep. To be honest, I’m absolutely new to the Affiliate business. Necessary training is not completed yet. Meanwhile, the links you have given are very significant. Besides, I’m encouraged to know more about Avon and its products. Thank you sincerely for the great and wonderful article.

    Best Regards,

    • Hi Ranao,

I am glad you enjoyed this post!

As you are new to Affiliate Marketing, I really recommend you avoid being an Avon Rep and go with something easier to start with.

Let me know if you need anything 🙂
